Reiterates stand on peaceful, honourable Naga solution

Naga People’s Front (NPF) Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon on Saturday said he has submitted the list of the party’s newly elected office bearers to the Election Commission of India.

He made the statement during the oath-taking ceremony newly elected COBs/CEC members, Core Committee members and frontals and cells at NPF Central Office, Kohima.

Kikon called upon party leaders and workers to take the NPF’s ideology and principles to the people. He urged them to “infuse them with our ideology, so that money and muscle politics does not work in our system.”

“Our party, ideology and principle stand on the peaceful, honourable solution on the protracted Naga political issue apart from other developmental activities,” Kikon said.

He said that NPF has taken consistent stand on the political issue. “Our stand from the day one is very clear on the Naga political issue. Our party has been supporting the Naga cause, that the Naga issue has to be settled through peaceful means, not through arm conflict,” he said.

Reiterating stand of the party on the Naga political issue, he said “Our party is ready to step down any moment, anytime, if an honourable solution to the political issue is arrived.”

“This is the stand of this party, and a stand of the party should be reflected to the government,” he said. “We will step down if an honourable solution to the Naga political issue arrive at. We will not be a stumbling block.  Our party has done in the past, and we will do so even in the near future,” Kikon said.

Inner party democracy

Touching on inner party democracy, he said, “We are not supposed to speak against that decision outside the corridor of that meeting.”

If you start going against the party decision, through your writings, utterance, apart from the party meeting hall, that will attract anti-party activities, which will be examined by the Disciplinary Action Committee, and that will attract suspensions, expulsions, or keeping your membership in abeyance, he said.

Although the nomenclature of the party have changed seven times but the colour of the flag remains, the motto remains, the symbol remain, he said , adding “It is only adapting to the changing times, to suit the changing times.

We must collectively guard to this symbol as well as this party, Kikon said.


‘Be a proud owner of this party’

“Be proud of this party. Be a proud owner of this party, and we will march together, Kikon said.

Our party is such that we keep close proximity between the elected members and the party members, he said adding “The party functionary functionaries should know the programs and policies of the government.”

In the NPF functioning, Kikon said, “Even in the past, we used to have political interaction with the elected members and the office bearers.”

The party functionaries should be well versed with the functioning, the programs and policies of the government, he said.

With this new team, we will ensure that there should be a strict coordination, cohesion between the elected members and the party functionaries, Kikon said.

We will streamline all this and we will take the party forward. It is a big family now, he said and urged upon that “ there should be no groupism.”

He also asked the office bearers “to keep the house in order so that we will be able to deliver goods to our people who have very high expectation on us on our coming together.”

We will activate everything and ensure that the hope and expectation of the Naga people is being lifted up once again and serve our people in the right earnest, he said.

Kikon said that the NPF central office will be shifted to new site on secretariat route from November 1. “Now, this office (near Hotel Japfü), will keep it for the Kohima Division,” he said. 

Earlier, the oath taking ceremony was led by NPF working president Pusazo Luruo NPF Working President Ahovi Zhimomi and H. Chuba Chang also addressed the gathering.
