KOHIMA, APRIL 8 (MExN): The Naga People's Front (NPF) has reacted strongly to what it termed as “repeated false allegations and lies being uttered by the Congress in Nagaland.” On the Naga political issue, the NFP, in a press note, stated that “the Congress have lied to the Naga people saying that the NPF had promised to bring political solution in three months.” No NPF leader has ever uttered such a commitment nor is such a commitment made in any document or NPF manifesto, it asserted.
It further said that “past records and detailed study of the approach of the Congress on the political issue exposes the fact that the Congress is not interested in contributing towards the solution of the Indo-Naga political problem.” It alleged that the Congress “stays away from the Naga Consultative Meet, where every organisation including nationalist groups, political parties, civil society, tribal hohos and even Overseas Nagas attended and the united Naga voice came up with resolutions and recommendations.”
It stated that DAN has followed a policy of equi-closeness “because the Naga groups are not outlawed or banned.” “Who can deny that under the DAN Government, Nagaland has achieved relative peace and there is much better tranquility when compared to the times of Congress government,” it questioned.
It further claimed that the NPF led DAN rule has seen “progress” in youth empowerment, capacity building, farmers, entrepreneurship, sports, music, tourism, promotion of ethnic food, indigenous culture, tribal festivals, etc.
On the financial situation of the state, NPF claimed that that in 11 years of DAN Government, “we have not failed to pay the salaries of the government employees for even a single month.” “What was the financial position during the Congress years and what is the position of even the Congress ruled neighbouring states where salaries of government employees are not paid for more than a year?” it posed.
It further informed that the Congress led Delhi government had given Nagaland a 26 percent step-down in the plan size, denied the ENPO areas the much hyped 300 crore package and gave Nagaland 90 crores less in its share of central taxes. Various ministries have also not sanctioned earmarked plan sanctions to the tune of 625 crores and the central ministry has not sanctioned the salaries of the SSA teachers, it added.
The NPF further mentioned recognitions and awards that Nagaland has received, including the Most Improved in Infrastructure state, best performing state in Infant Mortality Rate, best improved in agricultural growth and the United Nations award for good governance.
NPF asserted that “the voice of the people is supreme and this voice will be sounded by the electorate through each precious vote.”
