The Naga People's Front (NPF) has decided to boycott the consultative meeting on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016 convened by the NDPP led PDA government on January 31. The decision was taken during a party core committee meeting. In a press conference, NPF spokesperson Achumbemo Kikon said the present government is not taking the CAB issue seriously and misleading the people.

The resolution of NPF core committee stated that the NDPP led PDA government had not opposed the bill when it was tabled in the Lok Sabha on  January 6 “which is a clear indication that they have endorsed the bill in totality.” It said the government has no moral right whatsoever to convene a consultative meeting and any such meeting would be just eye wash to shift the blame to the political parties and civil societies.

The meeting also resolved to seriously re-examine the coalition status in the state of Manipur, Kikon stated.
