NPF president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, today said the NPF party would survive the test of time unlike other regional parties in the state that have come and gone.
Likewise, even the NDPP, which is presently at the helm of power, would disappear in due course of time, the regional stalwart claimed. Addressing party workers after inaugurating the new building of NPF Dimapur Division, Shürhozelie said the reason why so many regional parties in the past have disappeared is because these parties were formed just to seek “power.”
He said only the NPF, formed at “a time when Nagaland was on fire, in the midst of blood and tears”, was born with a purpose – to bring peace to Nagaland.
“Our priority is not power struggle but to bring peace through political settlement of the Naga issue. We are here today to strengthen and renew our commitment by playing the role of mediator and facilitator”, he said.
Shürhozelie said the regional party would continue to make people understand on the need for peace and solution to the Naga problem, and added the NPF would survive till such time Naga people finally achieve their aspirations.
He said though the NPF is presently in the opposition, the party members and workers should not be discouraged as a political party must learn how to live under all weathers. The NPF president also said being in the opposition was also a time to prove one’s integrity and commitment to the people and the State.
“The PDA government may be strong but I’m proud to say our party remains calm and unmoved”, he said.
NPF secretary general and Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye, reminded that the NPF is the oldest regional party in the North East and the second oldest in the country after the DMK in Tamil Nadu.
Kenye said the NPF members are fortunate to have inherited the legacy and called upon the party workers not to destroy the legacy but to carry the torch and pass it on to future generation.
Kuzholuzo Neinu, MLA; NPF vice president Pusazo Luruo and former NPF secretary general, Chubatemjen, also addressed the party workers.
Earlier, NPF Dimapur Division president, Er. Rhonthungo M Ovung, delivered welcome address.
