NPF’s claim of speeches quoted out of context absurd: NPCC

Kohima, March 10 (MExN): In response to the statements of Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and NPF regarding speeches of NPF legislators delivered at an event in Peren district recently, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today stated, “The ridiculous claim of speeches having been quoted out of context since it was spoken in Nagamese is silly and absurd on the part of NPF spokesman.”

In a rejoinder, NPCC Media Cell reminded both the CMO and NPF that “people are not fools as they believe to be and the bizarre statements of NPF legislators at Peren were issued by their own press & media bureau and not by some press reporter/correspondent.”

The rejoinder pointed out that while the CMO Media Cell has accused NPCC of making a mountain out of a molehill on the “bizarre claims” of the NPF legislators, their party Spokesperson has stated that the legislators’ statements were quoted out of context “in apparent damage control exercise.”

Moreover, it stated, when Chief Minister Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu has officially invited both JCC and NTAC for free and frank dialogue, the NPF party Spokesperson “slamming the civil societies to the extent of calling them violent and uncivilized further exposes the fault lines within NPF and substantiates the presence of dual power centers functioning in their own way.”

On the question of dual Chief Minister in the state, NPCC stated, “it is the NPF legislators who thanked Dr. Shurhozelie for magnanimously parting with most of his powers to make TR Zeliang as comfortable as he can be. This implies that Dr. Shurhozelie as Chief Minister has totally abdicated his responsibility which is unbecoming for a person of his stature.”

NPCC further criticized the NPF stating its “insatiable greed and ambition” has landed the State in a whole mess. “Citing lack of funds, state government employees especially teachers under various categories are not paid salary for months and state infrastructure particularly the road conditions resembles that of river bed,” it added.

“However, NPF has enough funds to venture beyond state borders for political expansion. Unless the government of India is giving special package for political expansion or NPF leaders contributing from their ‘supposed inherited wealth,’ they will be answerable to the people of Nagaland.”
