After the recent announcement of Election Commission of India (ECI) that assembly election in Nagaland would be held as per schedule in 2018, the national political party founded by late PA Sangma, has made its maiden entry into the State.

The National People’s Party (NPP) was formally launched in Nagaland State here on Saturday with Ato Yepthomi as Convenor and Sasank Ghatraj as Co-Convenor of NPP Nagaland State.

NPP National General Secretary and in-charge Nagaland State, Vivekraj Wangkhem, who announced the appointment of the Convenor and Co-Convenor of the party’s state unit, said with the launching of the party unit in Nagaland, the NPP has now spread its wings to 11 states.

Wangkhem said the party was launched by former Lok Sabha Speaker, late PA Sangma, with the main objective to uplift the tribal people in the country and that the tribal too can provide political leadership even at the national level.

Convenor, NPP Nagaland State, Ato Yepthomi, in his address said the common aspiration of the people of Nagaland under the umbrella of NPP is not only to see a Nagaland fully developed but also to envisage a self-dependent and self-reliant Naga society where every culture, religion and community can co-exist with peace and harmony.

Yepthomi said the NPP in Nagaland would strive to create a ripple of change with its gradual, realistic and long-term development vision, which would be felt in every nook and corner of the State. “The NPP will thus become a game-changer in the political arena as it will be focused on the solution of the immediate problems of the people and not merely on lengthy and unrealistic promises which can never be fulfilled”, he said.

Former deputy chairman, Dimapur Municipal Council, DP Angami, delivered welcome address and former president, Chang Khulei Setshang, N Kaimang Chang, proposed vote of thanks.

Representatives from different districts attended the launching programme.
