Phek, August 21 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP) 17th Chizami Assembly Constituency raised its concern over the pathetic and awful road condition of Pfutsero to Zhavame and called for immediate action of the government to improve the same.

The Pfutsero-Chillo road which is not only inter-state connectivity road connecting Nagaland and Manipur but is the lifeline of the four villages/Town namely, Tsüpfüme, Razeba, Zelome and Zhavame.

However, the condition of the road has never been in good shape and has been badly neglected without any sign of either new construction or repair for many years, the NPP stated.

During 2021, since the Government turned a blind eye to the hardships faced by the people, the community was compelled to find a way to maintain the road themselves.

A group of youths from Razeba area under Phek district initiated a crowd funding and repaired the 10KM stretch of road from Pfutsero to Zhavame that serves as the only lifeline for a population of more than 8000 people in the area under the theme “My Road, My Future.”

“It is time for the Government to do justice to the people of Razeba area,” it stated and urged the state government to respond positively “before the public could no longer bear the step motherly treatment to the area who are no longer willing to endure the hardship caused by the state of the road.”

The road condition is so horrible that anyone who travels through this road has to bear untold miseries, it stated adding that the deplorable condition of the roads has greatly affected the economy and life of the people.

Despite the huge Agricultural potential that Razeba area has, the condition of the road is in such a state that the farmers cannot transport the products to the market.

The government had declared Zhavame as ‘Vegetable Village,’ Tsupfume as “Vegetable and Ground Apple village’ and Zelome a “Ground Apple Village.” However when their products cannot reach the market due to bad road, the Government should be held responsible for the losses caused to the farmers, it stated.

Stating that the people of Razeba area have the basic right to safe and all-weather accessible road, the NPP called upon the state Government to provide an all-weather road to the people of Razeba area at the earliest.
