NPP says criticism of govt was not prejudicial

DIMAPUR, JUNE 11 (MExN): The National Peoples’ Party (NPP), Nagaland State today stated that its criticism of the Nagaland Government was to point out the “negligence and mismanagement of the state government” and was not prejudicial to any individual or party in particular.

A press release from the NPP media cell said that it has always appreciated the the departments concerned, frontline workers and all organizations involved in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

It however stated that the party has a responsibility to bring to fore the anomalies that are detected in the government’s policies especially in the management of the present COVID-19 crisis. The NPP pointed to incidents like the ones in Peren and Tuensang, “wherein the government has been caught on the wrong foot.” It further pointed to reports of Quarantine Centre occupants not being tested even after completing the mandated quarantine period.

Then, there are various reports of inmates from government-run quarantine centres complaining of half-cooked and poor quality food and sub-standard accommodation, the party said. “This reveals the amount of neglect on the part of government whereby it has not handled the quarantine centres in a professional manner,” it added. In contrast, the NPP said that quarantine centres run and managed by tribal and private organizations including the churches without any assistance from the government are providing accommodation and food of the best quality with limited resources.

Meanwhile, regarding the numerous trains coming in to Dimapur from outside the state, the NPP Nagaland asked the government, especially the Dimapur District Administration to work out a clear cut plan of action whereby the general public is not unduly affected.

It further clarified on the party’s stand regarding the 26 Aolengden Assembly Constituency debacle. The NPP said that the party made an internal investigation and found “malicious intention of one of the party’s poll in-charges who spearheaded and took the entire responsibility of the 26 Aolengden Assembly Constituency whereby the former intending candidate from the said constituency was fielded without seeking approval from the then NPP State President or from any of the senior members of the state party.”
