NPRAAF questions CM on Chiethu airport

DIMAPUR, JULY 16 (MExN): Subsequent the Defence Ministry’s nod to the proposed Chiethu airport in Kohima, Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has posed a set of queries as to feasibility, safety and protocol.

The NPRAAF, through a press release, asked whether the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has conducted the requisite feasibility survey and issued safety clearance for development of the proposed Greenfield airport project.

It also asked whether the Ministries of Defence or Civil Aviation are the right bodies to conduct survey and issue NOC (No Objection Certificate) and “whether NOC from the Defence Ministry is good enough to go ahead with purchase of land and construction of approach road and other needful development for establishing an Airport.”

It further questioned as to why the government acquired land “without obtaining feasibility report and technical clearance from the AAI and Civil Aviation Ministry.”

While stating that the issue is of paramount public importance, it said, “The issue doesn't only relates to development and paying off huge compensation but concerns the safety of future air passengers, which cannot be taken lightly.
