NPSC case goes Forensic

Dimapur, July 6 (MExN): In the “absence of confessional statement by the accused admitting to the crime,”  in the NPSC answer-script ‘tampering’ case, the state government has been forced to resort to Forensic help in its probe. The government today wrote to the Naga Students’ Federation explaining the current status of the ‘investigations.’

The NSF had sought an explanation on the status of the case pertaining to the manipulation or tampering of answer scripts of the Nagaland Civil Services, Nagaland Police Service & Allied Services Examinations, 2008 and the Lecturers’ Recruitment Examination, 2008.

The response of the government, made through Temjen Toy, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, said the delay “in framing of the charge sheet against the accused has been primarily due to absence of confessional statement by the accused admitting to the crime.”

For this reason, the government explained, it became imperative on the part of the Police to get a forensic report and proof on the aspect of tampered answer-scripts. “This was taken up with the Government Question Document Examiner, Kolkata.

However, they expressed their inability to take up the matter in view of heavy pendency of CBI cases, on their advice; the documents were sent to the Government Forensic Science Laboratory at Kahilipara, Guwahati,” the government informed the NSF.

The report is expected shortly and once received, the two accused person will be charge-sheeted, the letter stated. The state also added that “the two accused NPSC officials” have already been placed under suspension and disciplinary proceedings “will be initiated” once the “material evidences” are made available to the NPSC.

“The government is fully seized of the matter and will spare no efforts in ensuring that the accused persons are brought to book. The government, therefore, earnestly appeals to the NSF to appreciate the positive steps taken by the government and extend its cooperation and support in bringing the case to a logical conclusion,” the government appealed to the students.
