KOHIMA (MExN): In a significant development, the question papers set for the forthcoming Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) NCS Mains Examinations were set ablaze and destroyed this morning in the premises of the Kohima Deputy Commissioner’s office. One steel trunk completely sealed with double lock was opened in the presence of NPSC members, officers, magistrate, police and representatives of the NSF.

One sheet each of General English and General Studies question papers was set aside, sealed and deposited in the Treasury (North) Kohima under judicial custody.

The question papers were set ablaze in the presence of NPSC Secretary K. Nzimongo Ngullie, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imjung M. Panger, S. Meren, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kohima, Orenpomo Kikon, Sub Divisional Officer (Sadar) Kohima, Razovoulie Dozo, Extra Assistant Commissioner (Sadar), Vice President NSF, Imchatoba and NSF Finance Secretary Kapani Krichena.

NPSC Secretary N. Nzimongo Ngullie told The Morung Express that the Commission has already placed an order for setting of fresh question sheets. Referring to burning down of question sheets, he said that the Commission did not want to allow any ‘suspicion’ to remain and hoped that the agitating students’ under the stewardship of the NSF would be happy now.

The Secretary also reiterated that the Nagaland Civil Service (NCS) Mains examinations conducted by the NPSC would remain on August 20 as scheduled. “We will definitely have it on August 20,” he said adding that the presence of a ‘State Observer’ will be ensured during the examinations.

NSF president V. Phusikha Aomi expressed his satisfaction over the latest development and expects that the questions prepared for the Mains exam originally scheduled for June 25 would not be repeated as he felt that unless the questions earlier set were changed, the recruitment process would remain under suspicion.

He also said that the samples of all the question sheets be set aside, sealed and deposited under judicial custody to ensure repetitions of questions did not occur. He also hoped that a new team would be set-up to conduct the NPSC examinations.

Earlier, Nagaland’s Chief Secretary P. Talitemjen Ao said that NPSC had agreed to the suggestion of the NSF to destroy the existing question papers for the NCS Mains Examinations, which had been lying in the NPSC office and to go in for a fresh set of question papers to be set by another professional company.

The NPSC candidates in its recent memorandum to Nagaland’s Governor Shyamal Datta also demanded for re-setting of question papers to ensure fairness and total transparency.
