The NPYF Dimapur has called for urgent repairs of the Khughovi Bridge before the rains come.
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 1 (MExN): The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Dimapur District, has appealed to the Public Works Department (PWD), Roads and Bridges (R&B) Department to take immediate steps to repair and strengthen the Khughovi Bridge, stating that the structure has become increasingly unsafe for public use.
In a press release, the NPYF said the Khughovi Bridge serves as a crucial link for daily commuters, school-going children, patients, emergency services, and the transportation of essential goods between districts. It stated that the present condition of the bridge has raised serious safety concerns among the public, with visible signs of deterioration and structural weakness making travel risky and creating constant fear of accidents.
Zato Sumi, President of NPYF Dimapur District, stated that the ongoing dry season is the most appropriate and technically feasible time to carry out repair and maintenance works on the bridge. He said delaying repairs until the monsoon season could further damage the structure, increase repair costs, and pose greater risks to human life.
The party urged the department to treat the matter as an issue of public safety and human life, cautioning that any untoward incident arising from neglect or delay could lead to irreversible loss of lives, which could otherwise be prevented through timely intervention.
According to the appeal, the R&B Department has been urged to conduct an immediate technical inspection of the Khughovi Bridge in Dimapur, undertake urgent repair and strengthening works during the dry season, and put in place temporary safety measures until permanent repairs are completed.
The NPYF stated that the appeal has been made purely in the interest of public safety and expressed hope that the concerned authorities would act promptly and responsibly to prevent any unfortunate incident. The party said it is awaiting a positive response and timely action from the department.
