DIMAPUR, AUGUST 17 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), while appreciating the district administrations of Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng for their efforts in strictly checking and monitoring the influx of "illegal immigrants" in Eastern Nagaland (EN) jurisdiction, has called upon its six federating tribal units to assist and monitor the district administration.
An ENSF press release endorsed and empowered all its federating units, namely Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), Confederation of Chang Students' Union (CCSU), Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA), United Sangtam Students Conference (USSC), Phom Students' Conference (PSC) and Khiamniungan Students' Union (KSU) to monitor and coordinate with the district administrations for effective implementation and execution of the same.
It also directed its federating units to immediately cross check all the Non-Local Registration Card (NLRC) holders with ILP in order to identify the genuineness of the ILP card holders.
While pointing out Eastern Nagaland jurisdiction do not have any inter-district check post set up at present, the Federation appealed the Nagaland Government to set up the required check posts immediately along with CCTV to monitor the movement of any unknown persons.
The ENSF also appealed the district administrations to suspend issuing of fresh ILP other than renewing it in order to curb "illegal immigrants" who are not listed in NRC published by the Government of Assam and also to maintain a separate ILP registrar cell.
Stating that the recent NRC drive carried out by the Assam Government has shown an alarming rise of "illegal immigrants" in the North-Eastern States, ENSF asserted that the Nagas in this context should be ever ready to defend their land, rich culture, and traditions.
It also pointed out that the Eastern Nagaland in particular has been and is a safe corridor for the influx of the illegal immigrants and hence, requires continuous protection of the land. In this context, the ENSF has urged the government to respond to the current issue practically and effectively.
The ENSF also sounded caution that it will not hesitate to take "extreme and coercive measures" if the government machineries fail to protect its land and people from illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, the ENSF made it clear that its intention is not to harass genuine Indian citizens but to monitor and check the influx of illegal immigrants in the interest of own security and survival.
