NSA, ANSPA deliberate on challenges faced by private schools in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, JUNE 18 (MExN): The Naga Scholars’ Association and the representatives of the All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) held a joint initiative on June 17, 2018 in Dimapur.

The main concern of the meeting, according to a press release issued by NSA president Dr. Zuchamo Yanthan and general secretary Dr. Lungthuiyang Riamei, was to identify the challenges in the school education system in Nagaland and to address those challenges towards improving the system in the state.

In order to understand the prevailing problems in the school education system, the private schools are being identified as the focus of the discussion to begin with.

Challenges include step-motherly treatment meted to the private schools by the higher authorities concerned in the policy and implementation levels. The issues range from non-representation of the private schools in the policy and decision making by the state authorities concerned and the difficulty in the implementation of the policy decisions relating to such areas as the three language formula and curriculum, the NSA press release stated.

The other main concern is the nature of syllabi which has not taken into consideration the important aspects of contextualisation and skill-based vocational education. The importance of curriculum in the Naga context would include the incorporation of Naga identity, culture, and history on the one hand and the need for parity of standardised curriculum to compete with the counterpart students in India, the press release pointed out.

In the process, the students would be equipped to understand one’s own society along with the necessary knowledge and skill to respond tovaried life challenges leading to successful life, it said.
