NSACS trains OST centre doctors

Kohima, July 9 (MExN): A two-day training of Oral Substitution Therapy (OST) centre Doctors of Targeted Intervention- facility and Satellite OST center was being conducted by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) on July 9 and 10. 

A press release issued by the NSACS stated that the objective of the training was to train the Doctors of OST centre on Dose Management; Strengthen systems of Satellite OST; Index testing; ART and VL services including OST Program Management. 

In her welcome address, the Joint Director of TI Division NSACS thanked all the participants who were able to come from different part of the district despite the different challenges of travelling during monsoon. She wished all the participants a wonderful learning experience in the coming two days. She thanked Project Sunrise - FHI360 for the financial support towards the training cost.

In his opening remarks, the Project Director of NSACS thanked all who have responded positively and attended the training despite the challenges in travelling from the district. He mentioned that Medical Doctors are look at as God. And we are expected to perform our duty with human touch no matter who our client or patient maybe. One important thing that differentiates us from others is that we worked and deal with human live and emotions. He encouraged all the Medical Doctors who work in limited resources setting to be sincere in their work for better result.

There are 31 OST centre in the State supported by NSACS. OST centres supplies illicit drug users with the replacement drugs, supervised under clinical settings. As a result, besides treating users, it also protects illicit drug users from HIV and Hepatitis as well as save time and resources. 

The training covers topic such as overview of drugs and drug use disorders; Harm Reduction; Opioid Substitution Therapy – overview; Assessment and diagnosis; Index testing; Viral Load; Strengthening Satellite OST centre.
