NSCB launches Self Help Group scheme

Kohima: The Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NSCB), Kohima Main Branch today won the hearts of many people as it launched Self – Help Group (SHG) scheme.

Sanction order has been handed over to 14 SHGs by Parliamentary Secretary, Co-operation, R Khing at a brief function held in the NSCB office this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Khing expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would make the best use of and show their zeal, sincerity and honesty to the scheme.

He also stressed the need to work hard and know the principle of self- dependent.

He also assured the SHGs beneficiaries that the government was always there to assist those who really work hard.

Dr. G.D Banerjee, DGM, NABARD had highlighted on the role of SHG in elevation of poverty in Nagaland.  He also spoke on the role played by NSCB in developing the economic standard of the rural masses of the state of Nagaland.

Singing sweet tunes about the potential of Nagaland, Dr. Banerjee called upon the SHGs beneficiaries to take up agri and allied projects that would strengthen the economy of the state.

He also asked the member to come up with new ideas and projects and at the same time urged them to change their mindset to yield positive result.

S. Sale, Managing Director, NSCB said that once the SHGs show their sincerity and mature behaviour, “bank is encouraged to extend loan facilities to good working SHGs for expansion of their activities and economic uplifment.”

“However, the SHGs will have to ensure timely repayment of their loans as well, he added.

SHGs has average size of 10-15 people formed together from the same locality. This group of people with similar problems and common interest mutually pooled their resources together to make a small interest bearing loans to their members by maintaining bank accounts in their group name.

In the context of Nagaland state, Sale said, it is hardly 2 years that SHG had been introduced and it is yet to pick up momentum.
The Managing Director also added that the NSCB is committed to play a vital role towards extending credit facilities to dedicated and good working SHGs through its networks with the guidance and support of the NABARD.

Yhunsenle from Keso SHG extended grateful to the NSCB and she assured that the group would work hard to achieve something. She also stated that Keso SHG would select a viable and quick income generating projects so that timely payment of loan is ensured. Tsuzavi SHG of Seshunu village is set to take up potato project. It expects to yield a good result too.

Earlier, Imtila Jamir, RCS, KN Pusha, Board of Director NSCB, officers of NCUI project office Kohima also attended the function. The function concluded with vote of thanks tendered by L. N. Ngullie, general Manager (Cr).
