NSCN (I-M) condemns killing of two commuters, seeks probe

Dimapur, Aprikl 19 (MExN): The NSCN (I-M) on Sunday strongly condemned what it described as the “brutal killings” of two commuters — Chinaoshang Shokwungnao of Tashar village and Yaruingam Vashum of Kharasom CC village — near Yaolen Kuki village on April 18, allegedly by Kuki SoO cadres.

In a statement issued by its MIP, the group termed the incident a “flagrant act”, alleging that Kuki militants sheltered under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement with Indian security forces had “exceeded all tolerance limits”.

It claimed that such actions escalate tensions and reflect a failure of the state mechanism, warning that Nagas would be “compelled to pursue all available defensive measures” to safeguard their land and sovereignty.

The NSCN (I-M) further alleged collusion between Indian security forces and Kuki armed groups under the SoO, based on what it described as local reports and testimonies, and said the alleged nexus aimed to undermine the political situation in Nagalim and destabilise the region.

It also alleged that the Centre’s policy towards Kuki groups was a continuation of colonial-era strategies intended to weaken the Naga movement.

Condemning the loss of innocent lives, the group called for an immediate, independent and transparent investigation into the incident.
