Hebron, April 28 (MExN): NSCN (IM) today questioned the sincerity of the Government of India following arrests of its cadres by Assam Rifles troops in Nagaland recently.
Kevingol, Leacy, NSCN (IM) was apprehended from Mohonkhola, Kohima “without any valid reason” by the 3rd Assam Rifles on April 24, which the NSCN (IM) condemned calling it “unlawful arrest”
A press statement from MIP, NSCN (IM) alleged that Kevingol was further “forced” to lead the army personnel to the residence of Medo Angami, Chaplee Kilonser, NSCN (IM) in Viswema on the same night.
“Not contended with the foray at the residence of the Chaplee Kilonser, the army personnel broke into the Chaplee Kilonser’s farmhouse around 10:30 pm,” it claimed.
The NSCN (IM) informed that one semi automatic rifle which was used by the Chaplee Kilonser for self protection as an Identity Card holder was taken away by the AR personnel.
Meanwhile, the occupants of the farm house – an old woman, the caretaker of the farmhouse, two high school going girls and a college going son – were threatened and psychologically harassed, it further accused.
Alleging that Kronyi, the farm head, was “tortured inhumanly”, the NSCN (IM) also said he had to be rushed to the hospital to save his life.
“Such an unwarranted raid by the Assam Rifles is the second time at the farm house. The earlier raid took place in 2013,” the statement noted.
It maintained that the Assam Rifles has again exposed its “nefarious attitude” towards the NSCN and Nagas by conducting raids in the name of law and order situations “which has aggravated the law and order problems in Nagalim.”
Such “undue raid” conducted again by the Assam Rifles after signing the Framework Agreement, it asserted, is highly provocative.
“The Government of India and the GPRN has worked very hard to arrive at this juncture (signing of the Framework Agreement),” the statement added.
Meanwhile, appraising the “wanton act” of the 3rd Assam Rifles, the NSCN (IM) questioned the sincerity of the GoI which has been holding a peace talk with the NSCN. In order to maintain the sanctity of the Cease-Fire Ground Rules and to create conductive atmosphere for peaceful political dialogue, the NSCN (IM) has sought the release of its arrested official along with the confiscated arms through the Ceasefire Monitoring Cell Office.
It further condemned the arrest of its official Renthungo Odyuo along with official documents while on duty by the Assam Rifles at Khekiho village in Dimapur on April 20 “without any valid reason.”
“The frequent raids and arrest of NSCN members by the Indian Army during the cease fire period and at a time of peace talk being held at the highest level is being viewed seriously by the GPRN and appropriate response will be given... in due course of time,” it cautioned.
