NSCN (IM) condemns ‘calculated aggression’ against Nagas

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 24 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) today issued a statement with regard to the February 8 incident in Ukhrul and accused the Government of India of “using Kuki militants” to start “calculated aggression or premeditated violence against Tangkhul Nagas in Litan, Ukhrul.”

A press release from the MIP of the NSCN (IM) alleged that security forces were “caught on the wrong foot, acting as combatants rather than law enforcers.” Terming this as a “blatant violation of the common article 1 of the Geneva Conventions,” the NSCN (IM) claimed that this is a “crime against humanity” and a “clear breach of international humanitarian law.”

It further alleged that “Indian Security Forces are found closely operating against the Nagas armed with operational impunity to the Kuki militant groups, permitting them to target civilians without the fear of prosecution as seen in the Litan burning incident.” “This is a violation of the Article 16 of the International Law Commission on the state responsibility,” it stated.

The NSCN (IM) further alleged that under the pretext of Suspension of Operation (SoO), “the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India regularly paid stipend to the Kuki militants (KNO and UPF) without any check on their unruly activities that goes against the spirit of SoO. They are given free hands to move around with arms as if they are part of the state security structure.”

It claimed that the “organizations like KNO/KNA, KNF, KRA etc have been operating against the NSCN in collaboration with the Indian Security Forces.”

Regarding the Government of India dealing with the Naga political movement, the NSCN (IM) said: “it is glaringly seen that India was found fundamentally lacking a moral compass, unprincipled in their action and policy matters; not restrained by ideas of right and wrong.”

The NSCN (IM) said that “in the ultimate analysis, the truth of the Naga political rights will stand the test of time…” “Truth is the essential foundation of trust, integrity and progress towards any socio-political crisis and solution,” the NSCN (IM) stated, adding that therein “lies the reason why the Framework Agreement was signed.”
