NSCN (IM) condemns ‘unverified news’ on new Army Chief

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has expressed “indignation” against digital media platforms for sensationalising what it called “unverified news” and “misinformation” regarding the promotion and appointment of the new Longvibu (Army Chief) of the Naga Army.

In a statement issued by its MIP, the NSCN (IM) clarified that the promotion of Maj General Honreishang Shadang to the rank of Lieutenant General and his designation as the successor to General Anthony Ningkhan was a “collective decision of the NSCN leadership guided by the Naga Army Rules and Regulations.”

The statement comes after online reports suggesting a possible power struggle within the organisation following the order issued by Yaruiwo (President) on October 29, 2025.

“The order issued by Yaruiwo on 29th October, 2025 stands as it is,” the MIP statement asserted.

It denied any internal conflict, stating, “No unilateral decision is applied in this kind of high profile Naga Army Chief and no such thing as power struggle exists in any respect whatsoever.”

The NSCN (IM) accused “certain elements” of spreading a “concocted piece of information” and urged digital media platforms not to magnify such reports to “serve vested interests.”
