NSCN (IM) holds two for extortion

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): In the event of extortions that have been taking place in Dimapur, the NSCN (IM) in a press release today said certain anti-social elements were on the prowl to fill up their pockets and threaten businessmen in the name of NSCN (IM), and exploit the situation in Dimapur.

The release issued by the MIP claims that the NSCN (IM) Town Command got wind of the extortion racket and swiftly put its forces into action and within no time apprehended one Standhope Pochury of the NSCN (K), son of Yepho Pochury of Rekui village, and his friend Shekhuyi Chakesang, son of Yevuto Chakesang of Khekho Kumo village, at Khermahal, while two other boys identified as Kheho Sumi and Tovi Sumi escaped. The NSCN (IM) claims they were collecting money after serving demand notes using the letterhead of Political Affair Committee (PAC) constituted earlier by the NSCN to look after Union Territory-1.

After going through the demand note signed by ‘Central Finance Secretary’, which is not legible and reads as “To Whom It May Concern – we need an amount of Rs.3 lakhs for the expenditure for Christmas. And if you failed to paid the amount this bullet will shot on you. And if you expose this words a direct shot will be on you,” the NSCN (IM) said the modus operandi of the culprits is very clear. Further, on interrogating the arrested persons, the group said the arrested revealed that Shekhuyi Chakesang is an innocent public who was pulled in and asked to collect the money from a certain shop, without his knowing the reason for the use of the money.

The MIP informed that Standhope had revealed that the letterhead of PAC was supplied by Captain John Kuki of the NSCN (K), and added that John Kuki was a former NSCN member who had defected in January 2008.

The NSCN (IM) informed that in another incident, one Lan Kamei (Lanjaingam) Rongmei, son of Aching Kamei (Numchingthei), NSCN (K) member was found extorting money from autorickshaw and other businessmen using .32 revolver, and pointed out they were currently jailed at GHQ. of the Naga Army.
