NSCN (IM) Konyak region says NGBF statement ‘manipulated’

Mon, August 11 (MExN): The Konyak region of the NSCN (IM) has issued a rejoinder to the Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF)’s statement with regard to the interlocutor of the Indo-Naga peace talks.

While the NGBF on August 9 had voiced support for the Government of India Interlocutor RN Ravi, the NSCN (IM) refuted the statement, claiming that the ‘manipulated’ statement was issued in the name of their president, “taking advantage of his ignorance.”

It alleged that there are some people “who take the name of the whole organisation and keep on giving open publications according to their whims and Nagaland GB Federation is not exception in such cases.” According to the Central Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Konyak region, Phuae Konyak, the Konyak Region officials of the NSCN (IM) met the President of the NGBF Shahlem Konyak on August 5.

In the said meeting, the NSCN (IM) said that the NGBF President had allegedly apologized “if there has been any fault or drawback on his part by going against the NSCN Government in any of the press releases.”

The NGBF President had also allegedly said that “being a person who does not have the required educational qualification, he failed to understand the purpose of signing the papers for press release.”

In this regard, the Konyak Region of the NSCN (IM) stated that the NGBF statement was a deviation from what was communicated to them by their President.

It also added that the Indo-Naga political issue is not something that can be solved within the state government and that “this demand has not been to remain under the Union Government of India.”

“We cannot come to terms of solution unless the demand for a separate flag and separate Constitution is granted,” it asserted.
“The demands made by 7 NNPGs for 2 MP seats and 20 legislatures are not the duty of the NSCN but of the State Government, it added.
