NSCN (IM) leader Thuingaleng Muivah told the Naga frontal organisations today that the would-be-solution to the vexed Naga political problem is to be based on the ‘unique Naga history’. The leaders of Naga Hoho and the United Naga Council along with its federating units had met Isak Chishi Swu and Th Muivah at Camp Hebron in separate meetings today.
Th Muivah had dwelt on the ongoing talks with the Government of India but did not divulge the details, sources said today. The sources said that Muivah had refuted media reports of having accepted the Constitution of India while finding a settlement. “It is not true,” the sources quoting Muivah said. The NSCN (IM) leader had also told the Naga leaders that the would-be-settlement is going to be a sharing of ‘function’ between the Government of India and the ‘Naga Government’, the sources stated. Both Swu and Muivah did not disclose the tentative time in which the Naga settlement will be signed.
About 100 leaders from Manipur under the aegis of the United Naga Council took part in today’s programme, the sources said. However, it is not clear how many members from the Naga Hoho participated during the ‘consultative’ meeting today. First, it was the UNC delegation that met the NSCN (IM) leaders and followed by the Naga Hoho delegation.
The UNC in a separate press release stated that ‘Ato Kilonser’ of NSCN (IM), Th. Muivah, said at the meeting that the Naga struggle has “finally reached a stage for a negotiated and honourable settlement with the Government of India”.
This is based on “the recognition of the unique history and situation of the Nagas and the sincere desire of the Government of India to hammer out a political settlement after the realization that a military solution was not the answer to the Indo-Naga issue.”
The meeting concluded with leaders of the Naga organizations unanimously endorsing the collective leaders to carry forward the ongoing negotiation to its logical conclusion with the best possible settlement at the earliest time, stated UNC’s press release.
Meanwhile when contacted by the Morung Express, Naga Hoho President, Keviletuo Kiewhuo, said that the Naga Hoho had a “free and frank” discussion with the NSCN (IM) leadership and that the latter briefed Hoho members on the latest developments on the peace talks between the Government of India and NSCN (IM).
Queried as to whether the Naga Hoho, after being updated by the NSCN (I-M) leadership, was optimistic of a solution to the Naga issue before the State assembly election slated for March 2013, Kiewhuo replied that it all depended on the Government of India.
