NSCN (IM) proclaims 45-day general amnesty

Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): The Yaruiwo (Chairman) of the NSCN (IM), Q Tuccu, has proclaimed a 45-day “general amnesty” and called upon all those who have “gone astray” throughout the Nagalim territory to avail themselves of the opportunity.

The amnesty must be availed within the stipulated period of 45 days, with effect from June 12, the date of the issuance of the proclamation, stated the proclamation issued by the Yaruiwo.

The declaration was based on the decision taken by the National Security Council (NSC) of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) on May 30 to extend “general amnesty to all who have gone astray from doing what they have vowed before God and the Naga nation in defending the historical and political rights of the Nagas,” it added.

Giving context to the announcement, the NSCN (IM) stated that the decision was taken in recognition of what it described as the urgent need to halt “anything that obstructs the nation-building process by way of failing to defend the historical and political rights of the Nagas, thereby becoming victims of the flattering policy of the Government of India.”

Highlighting the Naga political struggle spanning over seventy-five years, marked by “blood, sweat, and tears to define the Naga nation as given by our Almighty God,” the NSCN (IM) asserted that the time has come to reflect and realign with the spirit of forgiveness and integrity.

It further noted that the decision was made in acknowledgment of the fact that the “Naga national objective remains elusive because of our own misdoings,” and emphasised that the battle cry “Nagalim for Christ” must be upheld with divine connection and guidance.

The decision was adopted recognising the “urgency to join hands in the struggle for self-determination and the protection of our history, heritage, and culture,” it added.
