NSCN (IM) rubbishes allegation of kidnapping

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 19 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) issued a press statement today adding a twist to the reported abduction of one Wilson Kenye in August 2018 allegedly by a cadre of the NSCN (IM) in connection to the sale of a used truck. The Public Action Committee of the Naga Council Dimapur and the ACAUT made the allegation against one Maj. Toishe of the NSCN (IM).

The PAC NCD and the ACAUT in their press statements maintained that Kenye was abducted and ransomed, while the NSCN (IM) in its rejoinder accused Kenye of masterminding the incident.

“The GPRN issues this statement with regard to the allegation by NCD and ACAUT of kidnapping and extortion of Wilson Kenye by Major Toishe of NSCN,” noted the statement issued by the NSCN (IM)’s Ministry of Information & Publicity.

The MIP statement accused Kenye of extorting Rs. 6 Lakh “in collusion with some goons” from “innocent men, who came to purchase a Dumper truck at Agri Expo, 4th Mile, Dimapur on August 1, 2018.”

It added that following an investigation Kenye “admitted to his involvement in the crime on August 1, 2018 and repaid the looted amount of Rs. 6 Lakh to the victims through Maj. Toishe on installment basis.”

Stating that the victims had approached Toishe for help, the statement read, “The crime was a total setup masterminded by Wilson Kenye in the guise of a mediator for the seller and the buyer of the Dumper truck. So, the claim of Wilson Kenye that he was a victim of extortion by Maj. Toishe is absurd.”

As per the statement, Kenye was “detained for interrogation” and “set free after paying a sum of Rs. 3 Lakh initially on his ‘release day’ with an ‘undertaking’ that the remaining Rs. 3 Lakh would be paid within 15 days from the date of his release on August 21, 2018.”

Contradicting the allegation against Toishe, the release said that the victims of the August 2018 incident has issued an ‘Acknowledgement’ on January 11, 2019 thanking the Unified Command, Zone-I, NSCN (IM) for helping them. A photocopy of the ‘Acknowledgement’ was also attached to the press statement.

The accusation against the NSCN (IM) Major, it countered, was a “desperate attempt to malign the image of NSCN and to cleanse himself of any wrong doing.”
