Dimapur, November 29 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has suggested that efforts towards unity in essence should avoid “the language of antagonism on communal lines” as this does “not go down well with people’s conscience as such critical stage”. The NSCN (IM) in a press note issued by the MIP stated that “in the best of reality for a fruitful search for unity no wrong steps should be taken to undermine the contribution of Naga civil societies” and that “because NSCN is a peoples’ movement” therefore the “Naga peoples’ interests should be taken into confidence”.
“The unification effort though it sounds sweet was doomed from the start because it involves the serious question of impropriety. And that is not the ethical standard of NSCN irrespective of who initiated the move in the name of NSCN”, the MIP note stated. The NSCN (IM) termed as unfortunate that while some of the “Khaplang group members have placed themselves in exalted position to bring about Naga unity under one single banner of NSCN”, the language they employed hardly reflect any such genuine search for unity.
“In the ultimate analysis of any national mission with the magnitude of Naga unification the driving force to ensure the success of the mission is sincerity and honesty of the approach”, it stated while adding that any effort bereft of these genuine steps would not bear fruits of any lasting nature.
The NSCN (IM) also stated that “equally important is the halting of the operation of any anti-Naga in connivance with the anti-Naga unity forces like the Meitei’s UNLF”. “But what is happening in Tameglong district of Manipur and Tizit tells a different story and that makes a mockery of unity mission of the Khaplang members”, it stated.
Referring to the attack of the UNLF-Khaplang combine forces against the NSCN (IM) at Khumji (Lukhambi part-2) in Tamenglong district and the killing of one captain Thanshok and Lt Pughato at Tizit on November 28 by the Khaplang group-ULFA combine forces, the NSCN (IM) stated that this only goes to show that the unity effort by the Khaplang group was done in “haphazard manner without anything worth to show to the people to captivate their imagination for a lasting peace effort with the potentiality for a positive outcome to give a firm foundation to the Indo-Naga political process”.
With regard to Sukhalu village where its ZB Battalion is located, the NSCN (IM) stated that there is “no abnormal thing going on as alleged” by the NSCN (K) and that “just being alert does not signify anything to cause insecurity to anyone on any reasons”. “This was corroborated by Lt Col. Tokiho, the Commander of ZB Battalion”, the MIP note stated.
