Imphal, May 11:  Even as the United Naga Council (UNC) is all set to hold rallies in the four hill districts of Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel on May 13, the NSCN-K, Zeliangrong Region has strongly criticized the role of UNC saying that the Naga civil body is partial and one sided in its approach.

The NSCN-K, Zeliangrong Region Information and Publicity Secretary has stated that the UNC and All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM)’s sponsored May 13 rally in the four hill districts is nothing but “the two Naga civil bodies are acting in the NSCN-IM behest”. The NSCN-K, Zeliangrong Region urged the two Naga civil bodies to rethink before they carry out the proposed May 13 rally in the four hill districts.

The NSCN-K, Zeliangrong Region cautioned the general public from obliging to the call of the UNC to participate in the said rally saying that the May 13 rally is unnecessary. The outfit further stated that it would be best for the Nagas not to hold any such rallies in the four hill districts.

The NSCN-K, Zeliangrong Region also stated that the UNC should play a constructive role instead of playing a one sided game. The outfit said that various Naga based church bodies have been appealing for the unity and reconciliation among the various Naga groups and factions to prevent further blood shed among the Naga brethren but in Manipur the UNC and ANSAM have been promoting only the NSCN-IM. “If the Naga NGOs really wanted peace in the Naga areas then NGOs like UNC and ANSAM should treat all the Naga underground factions with equal yardstick”, stated the NSCN-K, Zeliangrong Region.

The United Naga Council (UNC) has said that representatives from Naga Hoho, NSF, NPMHR, Naga Mothers Association, ANSAM, Naga Women Union and of course the UNC leaders have started heading to various hill districts of Senapati,  Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Chandel for the May 13 unification rally.

Information and Publicity Secretary of UNC S.Milan said that the May 13 rally is a solidarity rally supporting the common cause of the Nagas. He said that the Naga people living in the “present state of Manipur” have all prepared for the said mass rally in support of the Naga unification and the ongoing Naga peace process to expedite the Naga political issue honorably at the earliest.

“The Nagas have been deliberately divided and made scattered in different states and countries by the colonial powers to destroy the unity and cultural ties of oneness of the Nagas without our consent to accomplish the political motive of the colonial powers”, said S. Milan in a statement. He stated that during different stages of political movement, many wars had been fought and numerous lives lost, many women widowed, innocent children orphaned and Naga villages were burnt down and “today we do not want such things to resurface again”.

“Unification of all the Naga areas is our prior agenda. Without unification, Naga solution is meaningless. We urge the government of India to take the boldest step on the Naga political issue for the lasting and honourable solution,” stated UNC information and publicity secretary S.Milan.

Meanwhile, the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has said that it will fully support the May 13 rally in the four hill districts of Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Tamenglong. The ANSAM said that during its presidential council’s meeting it had taken a decision that all the constituent units and subordinate bodies of ANSAM would fully participate the May 13 Naga unification rally in the four hill districts. ANSAM has also appealed all its units to come forth and participate in the May 13 rally.
