Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): Holding the NSCN-IM responsible for the recent factional killings in Wokha, the NSCN-K maintains that it is not conducting any “military operations” in the Lotha region. Whatever activities being undertaken by the NSCN-K presently in the region are “purely civilian in nature,” a rejoinder from the region’s three ‘Raju Peyus’ claimed.
Reacting to the “boastful press write-ups” of the rival faction in regard to the recent killings in Wokha, the NSCN-K stated that it has not conducted any “military operations” in the Lotha region. “But some NSCN activities in the region at present are purely civilian in nature; the small groups are usually led by Raju Peyus, regional council members etc for…motivation” the region’s functionaries stated adding what was claimed as for ‘invigorating the public’s nationalism.’ These functionaries do not take with them active combatants “with heavy and sophisticated weapons” but only deal with “administrative matters” and “public motivation.”
However, the NSCN-IM considers the non-combatants as easy prey and soft targets for them, the region lamented.
The attack on a ‘small’ group of NSCN-K cadres on June 12 at Mekukla in Wokha by NSCN-IM cadres is no exception, it stated. The rival faction attacked the group with “their fullest might even though our sentry by seeing them told them not to fire against each other.” Four NSCN-K cadres were killed, it added. “…it is ridiculous and a shame on the part of the I-K terrorists to take advantage of such situations and boast of as heroes by killing civilians and recruits who did not possess combat arms at the time of the incidents” the Raju Peyus added.
