Dimapur, May 16 (MExN): NSCN-K (Niki) has expressed concern over the reported loss of lives in southern Naga areas under the United Naga Council jurisdiction and called for unity and vigilance among Naga communities amid the prevailing tensions.
In a press statement issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity on May 16, the group described the recent violence and loss of innocent lives as “alarming and disheartening,” while stating that condemnation alone would not be sufficient in addressing the situation.
It called for collective efforts to safeguard people and ancestral lands.
The NSCN-K (Niki) further alleged that “the Kukis have traditionally been used by foreign occupiers to undermine sovereign Naga rights,” and claimed that the current situation was part of broader attempts to divert attention from the political aspirations of the Naga people.
Appealing for unity across different Naga regions, the group urged Nagas to set aside internal differences and collectively work towards safeguarding their identity, land, and political rights. It also asserted that Naga identity, culture, and land remain inseparable and called for continued solidarity in what it described as challenging times.
The group also cautioned against interpreting what it described as the “patience and silence” of the Naga people as weakness, and cautioned that any actions against Naga interests could have serious consequences.
At the same time, it maintained that Nagas, “in the spirit as Christians,” sought peaceful and good neighbourly relations with all communities, but not at the cost of their identity, land, and political aspirations.
NSCN-K (Niki) further stated that while it desired peaceful and good neighbourly relations with all communities, it would continue to stand for what it termed the “God-given sovereign rights” of the Naga people.
