DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 27 (MExN): While pointing out that it was not uncommon that many criminals and extortionists are marauding the streets and markets of Dimapur using forged identities of different Naga political parties, the NSCN Khaplang has stated that it was however unwarranted on the part of the Law enforcing agencies to bluntly implicate the NSCN/GPRN’s involvement merely basing on the purported confessional statements of the apprehended culprits.
“It is expected of the responsible authorities to make proper enquiry and ascertain the true identities of the culprits before rushing to press publications so as to avoid unnecessary maligning of NSCN’s image”, stated a press note issued by the MIP. It pointed out that the alleged arrest of Bokato Ayemi and Joseph Awomi by Dimapur police on extortion charges and an assertion that they belong to NSCN (K) was an “unwise act of haste on the part of Dimapur Police to stain the NSCN’s credibility”.
The press note clarified that the accused persons are in no manner connected to NSCN/GPRN and hence the Dimapur Police are asked to “provide detail facts and evidences that convinced them to blame the NSCN/GPRN”. The fact that the family backgrounds/addresses of the accused were acquired by the police and the same published in the press itself provides for the Dimapur Police to launch prompt enquiry and establish the actual identities without any difficulty, it stated while cautioning that henceforth such irresponsible comments directed at discrediting NSCN shall not be tolerated.
