NSCN (R) condemns killing of Yumsen Matey

Dimapur, December 18 (MExN): The NSCN (R) today has condemned what it termed as ‘cold-blooded murder’ of Yumsen Matey, an Ex-MLA from Khonsa (West) Assembly Constituency under Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

“We strongly condemn such inhuman, barbaric and heinous crime by any individual or group against an unarmed man,” stated the NSCN (R) in a press release from its Secretary, MIP.

Regardless of the reason, taking a person's life cannot be a solution, it stressed.

Meanwhile, the NSCN (R) remembered the late Matey as a kind-hearted, generous, and humble person, as well as one of the few who truly felt the pulse of the people

It is very unfortunate to lose a good and promising leader at such a young age and it is a big loss to the Naga people of Tirap, Changlang and Longding (TCL), it added.

It further asserted that whoever committed the crime has not only taken his life but has also killed the future of a community and noted that it would take generations to have a leader like late Matey, who represented one of the most underdeveloped  and remote corners of Eastern Arunachal bordering Myanmar.

The NSCN (R) also mourned the untimely and sad demise of Late Matey and pray to almighty God to grant peace and solace to the departed soul in His heavenly abode.

“We also pray to grant enough strength and courage to the family and children at this hour of grief,” it added.

As per news report, Matey was killed in Tirap district at around 3 PM near Raho village, close to the Myanmar border on December 16.

The PTI news agency quoting Tirap Superintendent of Police reported that Matey, along with three of his followers, had gone to the village for some work when someone took him towards a jungle on some pretext and fired at him killing him on the spot.
