NSCN (R) gives ‘recognition’ to Tikhir region

Tuensang, July 2 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (Reformation) has issued a “recognition Azha” for Tikhir region.

Stating that the “one time popular” Tisari region comprising of Sangtam, Yimchungrus, Mukury, Pochury and Tikhir has gradually dis-integrated because of the various tribes, a statement from the MIP NSCN (R) maintained that the Naga National Movement started mainly to safeguard the identity of the Nagas and as such, “There is no reason why NSCN/GPRN (Reformation) should not allow Tikhir tribe to function as independent region.”

The NSCN (R) reasoned that even after bifurcation of Sangtam region and Yimchungru region, the said region remained functional on the collective strength of Pochury, Mukury and Tikhir assisted by some small sub- tribes.

“However, another blow to further dis-integrate one time un-noticeable mighty region after 2015 March NSCN (K) split,” the NSCN (R) stated before pointing out, “Unfortunately, the large part of Mukury fell within the Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar).”

“Now only two smaller tribes, Pochury and Tikhir left to be functioned as Tisari region,” it added and expressed regret that in recent time, the former have officially created separate region “leaving Tikhir tribe alone in helpless condition”.

In this regard, the NSCN (Reformation) recognised the difficulties of the Tikhir people in being accommodated with other region(s) and further acknowledged the tireless approaches to get the approval/recognition for a separate region.

However, the NSCN/GPRN (Reformation) maintained that it has “no role” to determine the jurisdiction coverage of the said region and insisted that it has to function in accordance with history “through mutual understanding with neighboring Eastern Naga tribes”.

It further appealed the Tikhir tribe and other neighboring Eastern Naga tribes to refrain from mis-understanding the decision and avoid any form of attitude that may infringe peaceful atmosphere in Eastern Nagaland.
