Condemns July 16 incident
Kohima, July 24 (MExN): The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) today called for immediate measure to strengthen the safety and security of women and girls in the State.
The Commission made the appeal while strongly condemning the alleged ‘attempted rape and murder committed’ of a mother of four children by one Khrietoulie Kense on July 16. The alleged perpetrator is currently in police custody.
“It is unimaginable and disturbing that women are not safe even in their own dwelling place, this is an appalling act that highlights the persistent threats to women’s safety and security,” it highlighted.
The NSCW also expressed concern over the rising cases of crimes against women in Nagaland, stating that such incidents, once unheard of in Naga society, now appear increasingly prevalent due to the continued breach of women’s safety and security.
In this connection, the Commission urged every right thinking citizen to ponder upon and condemn such inhumane crime committed on the vulnerable section of the society.
Asserting that is unacceptable that women and girls continue to face dangers while carrying out their daily chores, it held that such matters should be dealt in a serious manner to prevent recurrence in the future.
To this end, the NSCW demanded that the State Government and law enforcement agencies carry out a swift and thorough investigation and ensure strict punishment for the perpetrator.
It further urged immediate measures to strengthen the safety and security of women and girls, stressing that their protection must be prioritised and such crimes must not go unpunished.
