NSDMA issues weather updates on Cyclone Midhili

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 17 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department has issued weather updates with regard to Cyclone Midhili for the coming days. 

In a press release on Friday, NSDMA informed that Cyclonic storm Midhili is likely to move north-north-eastwards and cross Bangladesh coast close to Khepupara with wind speed of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph during evening and night of November 17. 

Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is prevailing and likely to increase becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from November 17 evening till 18th morning and decrease thereafter.

The State of Nagaland will not be directly impacted with this storm. However, under its influence, light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Nagaland on November 17 and 18, it was informed. 

In view of the above, the DDMAs and other line departments have been advised to keep close watch, monitor the situation in their areas and take appropriate precautionary measures to attend to any emergencies to save lives and properties during this period.     

The NSDMA, Home Department, also urged the public to be vigilant during this period from lightning, gusty winds and thunderstorms. Public have been requested not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash flood.
