Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) Advisor Z Nyusiétho Nyuthe formally launched the NSDMA Weather Mobile Application titled ‘Safer Nagaland’ on October 24.

The ‘Safer Nagaland’ app is designed to provide accurate and timely weather information, helping citizens stay informed, alert, and to be better prepared for natural hazards.

Nyuthe maintained that the launch of ‘Safer Nagaland’ app symbolizes Nagaland’s growing capacity and commitment to use technology for the safety and well-being of the people.

“The NSDMA has always believed that timely information and public awareness are the strongest tools in reducing disaster risks,” the Advisor said.

Through this mobile application, every citizen can now access real- time weather updates, location-based forecast and early warning alerts right from their phones anytime and anywhere, he said adding that it connects people directly to the most vital information that can help save lives, protect property and support better planning at the community level.

The app is an extension of the NSDMA Weather Portal launched earlier, and together, they form an integrated system for weather monitoring, forecasting, and awareness across the State, ensuring that critical information reaches even the most remote villages.

Nyuthe assured that the NSDMA will continue to strengthen its network of automated weather stations, expand forecasting capabilities, and enhance public awareness through partnerships and education.

May the ‘Safer Nagaland’ app serve as a power tool in safeguarding lives and livelihoods across our state, Nyuthe added.

About Safer Nagaland app
Dr Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer, NSDMA, said that ‘Safer Nagaland’ app marks a major step forward in NSDMA’s efforts to integrate multiple digital tools under a single platform.
“This Safer Nagaland app is going to help the public in general to know the weather in their fingertips,” he said.

It can be available in Play store and App Store. Anyone can download it, he said.

He explained that the app currently provides weather dissemination services but will soon include additional applications related to earthquake, lightning and other hazard alerts.

Dr Ruangmei further shared that NSDMA plans to introduce flash and WhatsApp-based alerts, similar to advanced systems used internationally, to ensure that users receive instant notifications during emergencies.

He added that the department envisions building a comprehensive digital ecosystem under the umbrella of Safer Nagaland for effective disaster communication.

This platform serves as a centralized hub for real-time weather updates, early warning alerts, and climate-related insights, supporting informed decision-making for disaster preparedness and risk reduction across the state.

NSDMA Additional Secretary Sentiwapang Aier highlighted the NSDMA’s efforts to leverage technology for disaster risk reduction.

The launching programme was chaired by P Inaka Sema, Assistant Manager (Geology Unit) NSDMA while vote of thanks was proposed by Kikrukhrienuo Babe, Section Assistant, NSDMA.
