Kohima, March 31 (MExN): The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has expressed strong condemnation over what it termed as “tragic and deeply disturbing killing of four cadres of the NSCN (I-M) at Hongbei village” under Kasom Khullen in Kamjong district, Manipur on the night of March 28.
In a press release, the Federation stated that at a time when the Naga people stand at a “crucial juncture,” awaiting an honourable and inclusive political solution to the protracted Naga issue, such incidents of “fratricidal violence” are not only unfortunate but “profoundly detrimental” to the collective aspirations of the Naga people.
It termed the incident a “disturbing trend of internal discord driven by vested interests,” undermining the unity and integrity of the Naga cause.
The NSF also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families who have refused to accept the mortal remains of their loved ones, demanding truth, accountability and justice. It further raised concerns over how individuals committed to the Naga national cause could fall victim to violence within their own ranks, particularly at a critical phase in the Naga political journey.
While acknowledging the statement issued by the NSCN (I-M) regarding an ongoing investigation, the Federation urged that the inquiry be conducted in a time-bound, impartial and transparent manner, and that those found responsible be held accountable in accordance with established rules and principles of justice.
The Federation further called upon all concerned to exercise restraint, uphold unity and remain steadfast in the shared vision of peace, dignity and justice for the Naga people, stating that the “sanctity of the Naga cause must not be compromised by internal strife and acts of violence.”
