DIMAPUR, JANUARY 5: The Naga Students’ Federation has strongly condemned what it termed as the “barbaric act of killing nine persons and dumping their dead bodies at Pachaspura area, near Chumukedima A.” A press note from the NSF President, Tongpang Ozukum and General Secretary, Esther Rhakho urged the High Power Enquiry Committee (HPEC) set up by the Nagaland State Government to leave no stone unturned in tracing the perpetrator(s). It further demanded that the perpetrators of this “monstrous act” be awarded “capital punishment.”
NSF added that at this juncture, right thinking citizens of both Assam and Nagaland states “should join hands together and try to find out the ‘modus operandi’ and identify the persons or organizations behind the entire episode.” It stated that this incident is “disturbing the age-old cordial relationship and peaceful co-existence of the entire populace and communities in Karbi Anglong district.”
The NSF further cautioned the public from creating “any sort of unwanted situation that will give more room to the possible third front conspirators to take undue advantage of the situation to further incite communal hatred and clashes amongst the communities living in Karbi Anglong.”
It urged upon the both the Assam and Nagaland governments to provide enough security for travelers in order to avoid any untoward incident. It also appealed for the respective state governments to “show more commitment and seriousness in solving the present imbroglio, in the interest of both the states.”
The NSF iterated that “at this hour of great pain and sorrow,” the Federation “stands by the family members of late Harlongbi Engti Kathar and also the Karbi Students’ Association.” “It is our prayer to Almighty God to give strength and courage to the bereaved family members to overcome such difficult situation,” it added.
