NSF, DNSU and OKM flay 'hit-and-run' case; demand justice

Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) and Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) while condoling the demise student in an alleged 'hit-and-run' case on May 25, has called for booking the perpetrator at the earliest. 

The student, identified as Mapuienla Longkumer, a BA (Hons) student of St Joseph University, who succumbed to her injury after she was allegedly hit be a vehicle at Ikishe model village, near the university. 

NSF: In a press release issued by its President, Kegwayhun Tep, and General Secretary Süpuni Ng Philo, the NSF said that it was “loss for words to express our sorrow for the life of such a promising student nibbed in the bud.”

It is our prayer that her near and dear ones will find solace in the presence of our Almighty God and that the dear departed soul will rest in eternal peace, it said.

The federation also express distress over the alarming rise of “hit-and-run cases” in Nagaland, leading to the loss of innumerable lives as well as leaving a rendering multiple others immobile. 

Accordingly, the NSF demanded more stringent implementation of the traffic regulations by the law enforcement agencies and also the overhauling of the gadgets being used for the same. 

‘The common people also need to be more self-aware and responsible so that our recklessness does not result in such incidents again,’ it said. Condemning the incident, the NSF also appealed to the authorities concerned to expedite the process of identifying the perpetrator of the heinous crime and ensure that the individual is brought to book at the earliest.

DNSU: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) while condemning the “hit-and-run” case has appealed concerned department to strictly investigate on identifying the culprit(s).It further asked the department concerned to take the issue seriously and ensure justice to the bereaved family. The DNSU also extended its condolences to the bereaved family wished them courage and strength to bear the irreparable loss. 

OKM: The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) while sharing its condolence also condemned the driver's “inhumane and reckless actions” and calls for a thorough investigation.

A press release issued by OKM President Limatongzuk Jamir and General Secretary Supongmeren Jamir, called on the law enforcing authority to conduct a thorough investigation and apprehend the perpetrator as soon as possible and be punished as per the law of the land.
