Immediate call for redeployment of teachers sought from CM
DIMAPUR, JAN 17 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), after thorough deliberation and reading of the teachers’ strength in every school of Nagaland has come to a conclusion that the redeployment of teachers is necessary to bring quality education in the State. In a representation to the Chief Minister, the NSF listed out eight points before the Chief Minister and to take necessary measures before the academic session starts.
The NSF pointed out that the balance of teachers in the State showed a lot of discrepancy and dissimilarity from district to district in terms of the total number of teachers and number of class rooms of all the districts. “The difference comes to the tune of about 200 excess teachers in some districts, while some districts shows the shortage of about 100 teachers”, the representation signed by Sashimar Jamir, Member Secretary and Cusayi Lohe, Convenor, Committee on Redeployment NSF stated.
On single teacher school, the NSF informed that there are many single teacher schools in some of the districts especially, Kohima, Phek and Zunheboto. The NSF also disclosed that some schools shows the nonexistence of extracurricular teachers such as language teacher, P.E.T, knitting instructor, carpentry instructor and drawing teachers etc. while some schools have double or even triple of such extracurricular teachers.
The NSF also informed the Chief Minister that many schools have excess teachers of Science, Maths and Commerce with shortage of Arts. On the other hand, many schools have excess teachers of Arts with shortage of Science, Maths and Commerce. Also some schools have excess Graduate and Post Graduate teachers while some schools run with only Undergraduate teachers.
It was also disclosed that more than two third of the schools in Nagaland are posted with only head Master without the Assistant Head Master. Meanwhile about one third of the schools are posted with only Assistant Head Master without Headmaster. Dozens of schools are found to be without the Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster, the NSF informed.
The NSF also lamented that hundreds of teachers are attached to DISs, DEOs and Directorate of School Education without any workload. It has also been found that around 70 schools are manned by only temporary and Adhoc teachers without regularized teachers. The percentage of trained and untrained teachers of the district is also found to be hugely unbalanced.
It was also disclosed that about two dozens of the M.E Schools upgraded to High Schools since a decade ago are functioning with the same strength of the ME staff and without the ministerial staff such as LDA, UDA and typist etc.
In view of the above mentioned abnormalities of the teaching staff position in Nagaland, the NSF requested the Chief Minister to immediately redistribute or redeploy the teachers all over Nagaland before the academic year starts in order to bring equality and justice. The NSF was also of the view that without the equal share of teachers in every school, the question of quality education does not arise.
