NSF for robust mechanism to  deal with illegal Immigration

Kohima, April 25 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today expressed concern that the inner line permit (ILP) is not been properly implemented in the North-East and called upon the State Government for put in place a robust mechanism to protect all genuine citizens.

The NSF is perturbed that the “enforcement of the ILP  in the North Eastern states has not been properly implemented and the influx of  Illegal Immigrants is posing as the biggest demographic threat to the indigenous inhabitants of the region,” it noted in a press statement.

“The lack of stringent implementation of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) 1873 has made the Naga homeland a safe haven for illegal immigrants,”  asserted the statement issued by the NSF President Kegwayhun Tep and General Secretary, Shipuni NG Philo.

In this connection, the Federation asserted that regulating the “flow of tourists and control the influx of illegal immigrants through the effective implementation of ILP” needs a tough and honest government and bureaucracy, backed by tough and honest general public.

The NSF further maintained that an “overwhelming population of people with questionable identities are inhabiting the various parts of our Naga homeland” and termed the scenario as a “major threat to our identity, culture and our survival and resulting in societal destruction.”

“This undeniable threat threatens to plunge our society into a situation wherein we could become a minority in our own land,” it added.

Accordingly, the Federation appealed the government of the day to put in place a robust mechanism to protect all genuine citizens and reiterated its demand for a committee/commission be set up by the Government of Nagaland to oversee the implementation of the online ILP system.

The NSF further directed all its federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to implement in Toto, the resolution adopted at the Emergency Federal Assembly of the Federation hold on April 22, 2023 to effectively carry out the” responsible role of monitoring and verifying the outsiders in their respective jurisdiction.”

The aforesaid entities were further directed to submit a census report to the office of NSF within 2 months period with effect from April 23.
