Kohima | March 20

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) observed 32nd anniversary of NSF Martyrs’ Day here today in memory of late Kekuojalie Sachü and late Vikhozo Yhoshü.

Kekuojalie and Vikhozo were victims of an alleged indiscriminate shooting by the state police forces on March 20, 1986 where they were part of a peaceful protest in Kohima called by the NSF to protest against the state government’s decision on the introduction of IPS (Indian Police Service) cadres in Nagaland and the extension of the Disturbed Area Belt from 5 km to 20 km along the Indo-Myanmar, the then Burma, border. Every year, March 20 is commemorated as the NSF Martyrs Day.

“On this very day, let us pay our most humble and solemn respect to the departed martyrs,” said NSF president NSF president Kesosul Christopher Ltu at the function held at NSF Martyrs’ Park.

Apart from NSF officials, the programme was attended by officials from All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU), Angami Students’ Union, Chakhesang Students’ Union and family members of the “martyrs.” Zakiebeituo Metha, pastor Immanuel Baptist Church prayed for the memorial service.

It was marked by observance of one minute silent prayer in memory of the martyrs, laying of wreaths and concluded with a mass prayer.
