NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy

Debutants Vizheto FC, Senapati FC enter quarters   Morung Express News Kohima | October 15   Debutants P. Vizheto FC and Senapati FC on Saturday booked their berths in the quarterfinals of the 17th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy being played at the Local Ground, Kohima.   Debutants P. Vizheto FC from Niuland routed Chedema FC 4-2 and will next take on Forerunners FC 4th NAP in the Quarters on Oct 18.   Vizheto FC took the lead through Achan (3) who scored in the 17th minute however, Chedema fought back with Rokuosazo Chakriino (7) finding the back of the net in the 26th minute. Both teams showed superb playing skills and were evenly matched as the first half ended with a goal apiece.   In the second half, Vizheto FC went ahead again with G. Golmei in the 50th minute. An exciting and thrilling game ensued as Rokuosazo equalised again with a beautiful header in the 59th minute.   But a spirited effort from Vizheto FC players towards the end proved too much for the Chedema players as Lalrintluanga (9) and Kato (7) scored a goal each to complete the rout.   Lalrintuanga of P. Vizheto FC was cautioned with a yellow card in the 65th min.   In the second match, Senapati FC humbled Tyrants FC Khuzama 5-0 and will take on Nagaland Police (Red) in the quarters on Monday, October 17.   Senapati FC took an early lead as Benjo (8) found the back of the net in the 3rd minute. Thereafter, both teams failed to capitalise on the chances created and missed some sitters.   However, forward and captain of Senapati FC, Koveo (9) showed some sublime pace and skills as he dribbled past the defence and scored in the 26th and 35th minutes.   Vareiyang (25) also scored a brace (60th and 70th minute) to complete the rout.   Khriezo Thaprii (5), Ketozo Thaprii (13) and Meyiezo Sale (3) of Tyrants FC were cautioned with a yellow card each. From the 66 teams which participated in the 17th edition, 8 teams remain. 214 goals (11 hat-tricks) have been scored so far with 80 yellow cards handed out.   The eight remaining quarterfinalists are – Vizheto FC, Senapati FC, Barak FC, Tiemakhe Kidima, Forerunners FC, Nagaland Police (Red), Asiipfii Christian Institute and Nagaland Police (Blue).   Meanwhile, an exhibition match between officials of Angami Students' Union and officials of Naga Students Federation is scheduled for 3:00 pm of October 16. All football lovers and well wishers are invited to witness the game. Entry for the match is free.
