Kohima, Sept 20 (MExN): The 12th edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy is slated to be held from October 1 to 31 at Kohima Local Ground. Organized annually by Angami Students’ Union (ASU), in profound remembrance and honor of two students’ comrades, this years’ edition will also commemorate with the 25th anniversary of the slain martyrs Lt. Kekuojalie Sachü & Lt. Vikhozo Yhoshü, who made the supreme sacrifice in the year 1986, while on the duty call of the Naga Students’ Federation in its fight for justice and rights of the students’ community.
Over 50 teams confirm participation, Baichung Bhutia to play for exhibition match
The Union while venturing to raise the playing standard and image of the trophy in the special edition, has extended invitations to few selected local teams, basing on the teams’ performances in the past editions of the trophy, as well as all the federating units of the NSF to this year’s football extravaganza.
Over 50 teams have confirmed their participation and 20 more teams are expected to register their participation. The last date for submission of from will be September 26.
Also commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Martyrs, an exhibition match organized by SYNERGY GROUP ENTERPRISE is scheduled for the October 2 between United Sikkim FC and Lifesports at 2:00pm, Indian Ace Footballer Baichung Bhutia will led the United Sikkim FC in the match to be played in aid of Youthnet’s “livelihood & employability project”.
Meanwhile the prize money for the 12th edition has been enhanced viz; champion- Rs. 1, 25,000, runners-up Rs. 80,000, quarter-finalist Rs.24, 000 and semi-finalists 20,000.
