NSF reiterates call for status quo on doctor’s superannuation issue

DIMAPUR, APRIL 16 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today reaffirmed its stand calling upon the Nagaland State Government to maintain the status quo with regard to the superannuation age of medical doctors in the State.

This was stated in a joint statement from Nagaland based federating units of the NSF comprising of the Ao Students Conference (AKM), Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), Lotha Students’ Union (LSU), All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK), Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) along with Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) and Zeliangrong Students' Union Nagaland (ZSUN).

The statement expressed support to the resolution adopted during the NSF Emergency Presidential Council Meeting held on April 11, 2022.

It said that the claim made by the NIDA, in a recent press conference, that some units of the NSF support their demand despite not coming publicly is “completely misleading and does not have any basis whatsoever.” “It is to be noted that there was no objection raised by any of the units when the resolution in question was adopted during the meeting and we are compelled to publicly reaffirm the same due to such malicious claims,” the statement maintained.

It further stated that the joint students' bodies are “saddened by the unfortunate development within the NSF family wherein ASU have declared 'non-co-operation' towards the incumbent NSF team.” “We appeal to the ASU leadership to reconsider their decision in the larger interest of the Naga people as the differences can be worked out collectively,” it added.

ENSF clarifies stand
The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) meanwhile said that if there is a shortage of doctors to deliver health care services, the Government “may consider re-appointment of retired Doctors for a period of 2 years for hospitals but not for administrative posts.”

A press release from the ENSF said this while expressing discontent at the statement made by the Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association (NIDA) over the “proclamation of the federation stand to the ongoing imbroglio between the medical fraternity and the State Government.”

Terming it as an “un-authorized statement,” the ENSF said that “it is the prerogative of the federation to give any statements in vocal or by press,” adding that the federation condemns the “irrational act and finds it a superseding of the office protocol.”

It meanwhile acknowledged the “plausible demand put forth by Nagaland In-service Doctors Association over superannuation of age.”

It further appealed to the State Government to urgently carry out appointment of the doctors through the NPSC to fill the existing vacancies and also to hasten functioning of the Medical Colleges at Kohima and Mon “so as to enable many Nagas to become doctors at the earliest.”
