NSF resounds call for support to affiliation

Dimapur, July 5 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has sounded a second appeal to the people to extend support to the affiliation of private schools in Manipur’s hill districts to the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE).

Taking into account ‘concern’ expressed by certain sections of the society in regard to the affiliation, the NSF sought to clear all apprehension.

A note release from the Federation pointed out that the affiliation shall in no way affect Nagaland even if the government of Nagaland grants affiliation “as scholarship is directly under supervision of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, New Delhi.” The Federation also stated that the government of Nagaland has a clear ‘1972 office memorandum’ on job reservation policy. Under this 80% is reserved purely for Nagaland while 20 unreserved quota which means any individual from any part of the country can avail the opportunity on the merit of competition. “Therefore the NSF has clear stance that job reservation cannot be shared to Naga brothers from other parts until and unless we achieve our ultimate goal” the release stated.

The Nagas have no objection to the promotion of the Meitei script or history but they do not dare accept imposition of any alien language and culture, the federation pointed out. The forced imposition of the Meitei Mayek in “our educational system” is resisted, the NSF reiterated. “Nagas too have the right to promote and protect our own, hoping that good sense will prevail amongst the people; however, the government of Manipur have abruptly ignored the wishes of the Nagas and have miserably failed to recognize the identity and unique history of the Nagas and thereby leaving the career of thousands of Nagas at stake” it stated. On this, the NSF has appealed to all the Nagas, from parents to organizations, educational institutions and churches to tribal Hohos to extend full cooperation.
