NSF restates Natural Resources-for-People

Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): Reiterating its stand that natural resources should belong to the people both in use and benefit, the Naga Students’ Federation extends its support to the Khasi Students’ Union over the uranium issue in Meghalaya.

A note addressed to the president of the KSU from NSF chief Imchatoba Imchen stated that as indigenous peoples, it is their obligated right and duty to protect natural resources from vested interests.

These interests under the guise of development, exploit local resources and subjugate them to the control of “mighty power agencies” the NSF stated. The endeavor of the KSU in safeguarding their indigenous assets is highly appreciated by the NSF, it acknowledged.

“Regardless of innovative policies and action plans moved by any governmental agency or company for their benefits, at the cost of indigenous people has to be fought tooth and nail unless an acceptable, honorable and beneficial understanding is drawn clearly therein” the NSF stated wishing the KSU the best.
