KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 8 (MExN): The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has vehemently condemned the physical assault on Moalong Jamir, a second-semester student at Tetso College, by the Anti Vehicle Thief Squad (AVTS) of Nagaland Police on January 29. ”Moalong Jamir's brutal encounter with the AVTS has not only left the entire student community in shock and disbelief but has also raised serious questions about the excessive use of force by few personnel from the law enforcement. The NSF, as the collective voice of Naga students, stands in solidarity with the victim, strongly denouncing this act of violence against a student pursuing his education or upon any individual,” read the condemnation note issued by the NSF.
It stated that the injuries inflicted upon Moalong Jamir, including damage to his left ear drum, a fractured spinal cord, and a swollen kidney; reveal the gravity of the situation while underscoring the urgent need for a thorough and impartial investigation to bring those responsible to justice. The Federation has therefore called for immediate suspension of the erring personnel responsible for the assault on Moalong Jamir within three days and that the suspension order is brought in public domain.
Failure to take decisive action against those responsible will compel the NSF to pursue its own course of action to ensure justice for the victim and to prevent the recurrence of such heinous acts, it cautioned.
Stating that the abuse of power by those entrusted with upholding law and order is disheartening, it said the principles of justice must prevail irrespective of the circumstances.
The Federation also urged the authorities to conduct an impartial and expeditious investigation into the incident, holding the guilty parties accountable to restore public confidence in the integrity of law enforcement.
