NSF to hold ‘The Naga Morung’ on Aug 14

KOHIMA, AUGUST 10 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) will be holding a symposium called “The Naga Morung” on August 14 at NBCC Convention Centre, Kohima.

The objectives of this event include educating young Nagas about the Naga national movement, providing a comprehensive understanding of history and political standing, fostering a sense of pride, unity and purpose among the youth and emphasizing the importance of collective identity, a press release issued by the NSF stated on Saturday.

It will also offer a detailed narrative of the Naga people’s stance for self-determination, highlighting significant milestones and key figures and inspire the younger generation to actively engage in preserving and promoting Naga identity and heritage.

Historically, the Naga Morung was the cornerstone of Naga society, serving as a vital institution where young Nagas learned the customs, traditions, and history of their people. In recent times, however, the decline of this tradition has created generational gaps in understanding the historical and political heritage of our people.

To bridge this divide, the NSF said it was organizing the symposium under the theme “Kuknalim,” meaning “Victory to the People and Land.” This event aims to instil dignity in young Nagas by educating them about Naga history and fostering a renewed sense of identity and purpose, it highlighted.

The symposium will feature eminent historians and scholars who will provide valuable insights into the Naga political journey, significant milestones, and key figures in the Naga struggle. Additionally, panels will address contemporary issues faced by young Nagas, their role in the community, and their contributions to the future of the Naga people. Personal narratives and historical stories will be shared.

The NSF has extended a warm invitation to all Nagas to participate in this significant gathering which will begin from 10 am onwards.
