DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): In the backdrop of media reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with other Congress leaders including UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi would be coming to Nagaland for the purpose of campaigning for the coming February 23 Assembly Election, the Naga Students Federation (NSF) has prepared a memorandum addressed to the PM.
While welcoming the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his entourage to Nagaland, the NSF stated that it was looking forward for “humanely answer for the interest of the Nagas and not for the only interest of any political parties”. “The NSF seriously impels upon your Leadership to declare to the Nagas in black and white the progress made so far through the sincere efforts of the Government of India in resolving the vexed Indo-Naga political process”, stated the memorandum signed by NSF President Kelhouneizo Yhome and General Secretary N. Ejanthung Ngullie.
The NSF in the memorandum submitted through the Governor of Nagaland has earnestly appealed to the PM to “envisage a clear direction towards the desired political interest of the Nagas through correct understanding of the situation”. A copy of the memo was also forwarded to the Chairperson, UPA for information and necessary action besides to all concerned dignitaries of INC visiting Nagaland for information and necessary action.
The memo to the PM reminded about another memo submitted on November 1, 2011 from camp New Delhi. The NSF stated that it had been “striving for the larger interest of the Nagas – unwavering in its stand and preserving in promoting the rights of the Nagas which will eventually continue to be a challenge down the generations”.
The NSF pointed out that the Federation stands committed and awaits the Government of India for peaceful negotiation and early settlement acceptable and honourable to the Nagas and the people of India in addressing the longest conflict of the modern century. The NSF strongly considered that the country is “responsible to pave a way for finding amicable solution to strengthen the solidarity of the people in the country”.
“And, it will be unfortunate on the part of the Government of India if such concerns are not taken seriously at the right time for the right people. It is in fact disheartening to mention that for the past ten years Nagaland has not been visited by a Prime Minister of India after the remarkable visit of Shri. Atal Behari Vajpayee in the year 2003”, the NSF also stated.
