NSHRC creates awareness on Human Rights

Lumami, May 16 (MExN): The awareness programme on Human Rights and the role of Human Rights Commission in its better protection was organised by the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission in collaboration with Nagaland University at Ihoshe Kinnimi Hall Nagaland University, Lumami on May 16.

A DIPR report received here stated that the team led by Justice Songkhupchung Serto Chairperson Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) and was accompanied by Member and Secretary NSHRC. 

The function of the commission was deliberately explained by the team during the meeting. It functions like intervening in any proceeding involving any allegation of violation of human rights pending before a court, with the approval of such court. 

Reviewing the safe guard provided by the constitution or any law for the time being in force for the protection of human rights. Beside that it undertakes and promotes research in the field of human rights. It spreads human rights literacy among various sections of society and promotes awareness of the safeguard available for the protection of this right through publications, the media and other available means. The brief speech on powers relating to inquires was also discussed at the function. 

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Prof. H. John Sema department of Political Science followed by the vote of thanks by Dr Abemo Registrar Nagaland University. 

The Commission also visited Government Primary School and Health and Wellness Centre and interacted with the staffs.
